Chain smoker Monica (53) from Leeds goes viral: “I put this on my cigarette.”

Don’t want to quit smoking just yet? Then smoke smarter. That’s what Monica from Leeds said when she received huge media attention. In no time at all, the 53-year-old chain smoker, who used to smoke 23 cigarettes a day, was down to just 4 a day – and that without any intention of quitting. We delved into her unique story and the surprisingly simple method she recommends to every smoker; what we discovered will amaze you.

Monica Hoffmann has been smoking for thirty-three years. “Yes, I know it’s bad, but for me it’s that moment of calm, a brief break from all the hustle and bustle of daily life.”

Until her husband showed her something brilliant last month: she could carry on smoking, but without the health risks. “If only I’d known this sooner...”

The filter Monica used: “I didn’t change a thing about my day”

During our conversation, she pulls out a small, transparent filter which, she says, made the biggest difference for her. The so-called NicoQuit filter works more simply than you might think.
You place it over your cigarette (any brand) and as soon as you smoke, NicoQuit filters out the nicotine and tar. This way, you retain the taste and the ritual, but your body gradually reduces its nicotine dependence without you even noticing or experiencing any discomfort.

Monica continues: “It feels nicer and more inviting than all those methods that force you to quit completely. And let’s be realistic, 90% of attempts to quit fail anyway, so why not just smoke smarter?”

The irony? Within a few weeks, the nicotine level in Monica’s blood had halved, and the constant restlessness she felt when she couldn’t smoke for an hour or two had completely disappeared. “It’s as if I only wanted to smoke when I consciously chose to, and that gave me a tremendous sense of calm,” she explains.

Does it really work? We asked a doctor for his honest opinion

“As doctors, we naturally always recommend quitting,” says lung expert Michael Burling. “But anyone who is not (yet) willing or able to do so would be well advised to minimise the harm as much as possible. Products that reduce the intake of tar and nicotine per cigarette are a sensible step in that regard.”

He also confirms the mechanism behind the reduction. “What happens biologically here makes sense. As soon as the body gradually receives less nicotine, the sensitivity of the nicotine receptors adapts. The craving for a cigarette decreases because the body simply becomes less accustomed to high nicotine levels.

Whether this always leads to quitting completely is a personal matter, but there is no doubt that it works as a reduction method."
